The Chicago White Sox and experienced left-handed pitcher Martín Pérez have finalized a $5 million, one-year contract, which also includes a mutual option for the 2026 season. The agreement was made about two weeks ago, and the team made the announcement on Tuesday. To make room for Pérez on the 40-man roster, the White Sox designated right-handed pitcher Ron Marinaccio for assignment.

Pérez, 33 years old, began his MLB career with the Texas Rangers in 2012. He earned an All-Star selection in 2022 and played a key role in helping the Rangers win the World Series in 2023.

Last season, Pérez played for both Pittsburgh and San Diego, finishing with a 5-6 record and a 4.53 ERA over 26 starts. Throughout his career, he has appeared in 314 major league games, starting 269 of them, with a 90-87 record and a 4.44 ERA.

In 2023, Pérez was placed on the injured list for a left groin strain from May 28 to June 28.

His final start with Pittsburgh was a strong one, pitching six scoreless innings before being traded to San Diego on July 30. Pérez finished the season on a positive note with the Padres, going 3-1 and posting a 3.46 ERA over his last 10 starts.

However, he did not pitch in the postseason for San Diego, as the Padres were eliminated by the Dodgers in the NL Division Series.

Meanwhile, Marinaccio made 16 relief appearances for the New York Yankees last season, going 1-0 with a 3.86 ERA. He was claimed off waivers by the White Sox on September 23.

The White Sox are looking to bounce back from a tough 2024 season, where they finished with a dismal 41-121 record, which set a post-1900 MLB record for the most losses in a season.
