‘No decisions are made’: Newcastle United still debating what to do with 20-year-old ‘wonderkid’

Garang Kuol hasn’t had the dream start to his life at Newcastle United that he likely envisioned when he first signed the pre-agreement contract.

The Australian ‘wonderkid’ will have known that he was heading out on loan when he arrived on Tyneside, but nobody could have foreseen the disaster that would be his spell at Hearts in the Scottish Premier League.

A short time into his time north of the border, Hearts parted company with the manager that brought Kuol to the club and that saw his game time seriously reduced.

The following season was no better as Garang Kuol was loaned to Dutch side FC Volendam who struggled in the Eredivisie and as such wasn’t the best place for a flourishing youngster to thrive.

Eddie Howe has been keeping an eye on Garang Kuol’s progress

This season, Kuol was on the list to be loaned out but a knee injury he picked up in the summer ruled out a move, and now we’re heading towards the end of the January transfer window, the decision around Kuol’s future still hasn’t been made.

The Shields Gazette has reported that Kuol has trained with the first team a few times this season, and has attended games at St James’ Park, and has recently started to find form for the Under 21s.

Under-21s coach Diarmuid O’Carroll has admitted that the club still aren’t sure what the next steps are with Kuol in terms of loan moves.

If Newcastle do send Kuol on loan, make sure it’s a good one

There’s a good chance that Garang Kuol will be kept around, but should Newcastle opt to loan him out again, we just hope that he gets a better move this time so we can see some actual progress.

“Yeah, potentially [he will stay]. no decisions are made. Obviously, everything can change in the last week in the window. But I think from our point of view, we’re perfectly comfortable with him being in the building.

“If someone was to come and there’s an attractive option, again we would sit down as a team in terms of Jack [Ross] and everybody and we weigh it up.

“We don’t want to send someone for a token gesture because it looks good to send them on loan. We want from now on every loan to be tailored to the needs of the player.”
