Tennessee Volunteers mascots Smokey and Davy Crockett: What to knowThe Tennessee Volunteers offense could be getting a major boost via the college football transfer portal. While the window is technically closed, players from the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and Ohio State Buckeyes have five days following the national championship matchup to enter the portal. The Vols are trending towards landing a veteran offensive lineman who started the first seven games of the 2024 season for Notre Dame at left guard. Tennessee is set to host the former three-star player, who comes with a do not contact tag in the portal, on an official visit. This sounds like good news for the Vols. On3.com’s Pete Nakos predicts that Tennessee will land Notre Dame offensive lineman Sam Pendleton. “Hours after entering the transfer portal on Wednesday morning, Notre Dame offensive lineman Sam Pendleton scheduled a visit to Tennessee,” Nakos wrote on Thursday. “The redshirt freshman arrives in Knoxville on Thursday for a visit with the Volunteers. “With three years of eligibility remaining, I’ve logged a prediction for Pendleton to land at Tennessee. He entered the portal with a do not contact tag, typically meaning the athlete knows where he wants to go. Tennessee was a player in Pendleton’s high school recruitment and is now on track to land him out of the transfer portal.”

Tennessee would get an added boost landing a player coming off a deep run in the College Football Playoff. Pendleton was a top-100 prospect in the 2023 recruiting class as one of the top-rated interior offensive lineman.
