Championship title winner urged to join English club amid reports Leeds United are close to signing him

Leeds United are in the market for a new striker and reports over the last few days have suggested that The Whites are closing in on forward currently plying his trade in La Liga.

At the beginning of the transfer window, Daniel Farke reiterated that Leeds were expecting a quiet month. Leeds have since confirmed loan exits for Joe Gelhardt to Hull City and teen Charlie Crew to Doncaster.

But nothing else has happened despite numerous links to new players and a handful of Elland Road stars being touted with moves to other clubs. With a week to go in the window, things are now heating up.

Farke himself says he wants to improve three positions in this Leeds side and one of those, is a striker. Patrick Bamford has suffered a setback, leaving Farke with just Joel Piroe and Mateo Joseph as options.

Kelechi Iheanacho urged to return to England from Sevilla

Iheanacho left Leicester City after seven years at the club to join Sevilla in the summer just done, despite helping Leicester achieve promotion. He, Enzo Maresca and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall all left the King Power.

In Spain however, Iheanacho has failed to impress. Just 11 appearances, scoring three goals – Iheanacho has been used as a back-up option since Victor Orta lured him to La Liga from Leicester six months ago.

Now, reports say Leeds are closing in on the signing of Iheanacho before the end of the window and former Ipswich, Ajax and Betis star George Finidi has urged Iheanacho to return to England on AfricaFoot.

“In my opinion, he should leave the club if any good offers come along. He’s 28 and still has a lot to offer, but he needs somewhere where he’ll be truly appreciated. A return to England would be a great option.”

Why Kelechi Iheanacho fixes an issue Daniel Farke has in attack

With Piroe, Joseph, Bamford and Gelhardt in attack, Leeds had four excellent options and arguably, four players that can operate at Premier League level. But they are all too similar; Leeds need something else.

None certainly, boast any kind of pace. Joseph is probably the fastest but he is known more for his work rate and ability to engage centre-backs. Bamford mirrors the latter, but lacks pace and now availability.

Piroe is a finisher, the best of the lot but rarely gets involved in any kind of build-up play and sometimes goes missing. Leeds need something completely different and Iheanacho’s pace makes him that man.
