Leeds United striker Sonny Perkins has agreed to turn his loan spell at Leyton Orient into a permanent move, sources have told Football Insider.
Perkins made the move to Elland Road back in the summer of 2022, when he signed from Premier League side West Ham.
After struggling for game time with the Whites, the striker joined Oxford on loan in the summer of 2023, but was recalled in January last year amid a lack of minutes.
The striker again left Leeds last summer when he signed for Leyton Orient on a season-long loan, and he is now set to depart Elland Road for good.
Sonny Perkins closes in on permanent Leeds United exit
Since making his move to Orient in the summer, Perkins has scored four goals and provided six assists in 19 appearances in all competitions for Richie Wellens’ side (Transfermarkt).
The striker’s contract with Leeds is due to expire at the end of this season, meaning the January transfer window is their last chance to get anything in return for him.
Perkins is now understood to have agreed a permanent move to Leyton Orient which would allow his parent club to do that, or at least speed up a process that may have been on the way within months anyway.
The O’s have already signed Azeem Abdullai permanently from Swansea City and Dilan Markanday on loan from Blackburn Rovers – as revealed by Football Insider – this month.
Football Insider also understands that Leyton Orient midfielder Ethan Galbraith is a target for Swansea in the current transfer window.
Wellens’ team have enjoyed an excellent campaign so far, climbing to sixth in the League One table following their 6-2 win at Exeter City on Tuesday (28 January).
Leeds meanwhile are currently top of the Championship table, three points clear of the play-off places, despite a goalless draw at Burnley last time out.
In other news, Leeds United fans have slammed two players for their performances against Burnley.
