The injury bug is continuing to be an issue this offseason for Georgia football. Everyone knows how much injuries impacted Kirby Smart and UGA this past season, and the hope was that a new year would result in better injury luck. Unfortunately that has not been the case.
The bad news on the injury front began first with three Bulldogs announcing that they had surgeries this offseason and will be missing or limited during spring practice. After this news came out on Tuesday, there was another Bulldog who suffered an injury as well. This injury however was suffered by a Georgia football star who has declared for the NFL Draft later this summer.
Linebacker Chaz Chambliss
Linebacker Chaz Chambliss is coming off his best season by far at Georgia this past year. Chambliss finished the year with 41 total tackles which included a team high 6.5 sacks as well as one fumble recovery.
Chambliss made the obvious decision to declare for the NFL Draft last week, ending what was a very solid career in Athens. After declaring for the draft, Chambliss headed to the Shrine Bowl which is a college football All Star game which allows the best college football players to practice and compete with each other in an attempt to impress NFL scouts.
Unfortunately for Chambliss, his week at the Shrine Bowl was cut short after reportedly suffering an injury to his hamstring on Tuesday. Melanie Friedlander did report that this injury is not that significant, but as a sign of precaution, Chambliss has decided to sit out for the rest of the week.
This injury unfortunately has a chance to impact his draft stock, but Chambliss will have plenty of time later this spring to show who he is as a player. So stay tuned for Georgia’s upcoming pro day and the NFL Draft Combine to see how much this injury to Chambliss is impacting him.
