These infuriating Tennessee Vols stats make the loss to Kentucky even worse
Another game the Vols let slip away.
Once again, the Tennessee Vols basketball team had a great opportunity to post a head-turning win, but they let things slip away. On Tuesday night, Rick Barnes and his players were neck-and-neck with No. 14 Kentucky, but the Wildcats ended up leaving Knoxville with a 78-73 win.
This is a loss that can be best described as frustrating. Late in the action, Tennessee had a great opportunity to come out on top, but the team went ice cold shooting the ball, something which has become a bit of a consistent issue in recent games.
According to 247’s Ben McKee, Kentucky didn’t connect on a single field goal in the final 5:20 of the action. To make things worse, the Vols could barely buy a bucket from 3-point land with less than five minutes to go, going 2-of-13 with things on the line. Oh, and they didn’t attempt a single two-pointer during that stretch? Come on:
Tennessee basketball went ice cold from the floor late in the loss to Kentucky
The fact that Tennessee went 11-of-45 on the night with its 3-point attempts is laughable. With the team shooting so poorly from distance, why not try and change things up and attack the paint? If the 3-ball wasn’t falling, Tennessee needed to mix up the game plan.
Instead, the guys kept letting the rock fly from deep, having little to no success. In the end, that poor shooting led to Tennessee falling to 17-4 on the season, while Kentucky was able to celebrate a big-time win on the road over a Top 10 program:
The Wildcats just had to use that photo for their social media post, didn’t they? Hey, as much as that might annoy some Vols fans, the fact of the matter is that Kentucky made the plays needed to record the victory, while Tennessee didn’t. This was a similar ending to how things went against No. 1 Auburn, which can’t continue to happen.
