The LSU Football team had a much easier offseason than the Tigers did last offseason when Brian Kelly had to replace both his offensive and defensive coordinator along with his entire defensive staff. Besides losing some valued analysts this offseason, the only on field assistant that LSU lost this offseason was Tight Ends Coach and Special Teams coordinator Slade Nagle who left for the offensive coordinator role at Houston.
The Tigers hired Grambling State’s Aman Anand to help fill the void on special teams but, the Tigers needed to fill the Tight Ends coaching position. The Tigers have hit a home run as they’ve hired former Florida State offensive coordinator Alex Atkins.

According to Wilson Alexander, Alex Atkins will serve as LSU’s Tight Ends Coach and the run game coordinator

Landing Alex Atkins is a massive get as any time you can land an experience Head Coach or coordinator to the staff it’s only a benefit. The Tigers struggled mightily over the last two seasons finding an effective run game, now Atkins a former offensive line coach can help the Tigers offense find success and he can be an asset to Joe Sloan.
The biggest reason this is such a massive get for LSU Football is that Alex Atkins is an incredible recruiter and joins the staff with ties to the recruiting hot bed of Florida. This past cycle LSU couldn’t flip Solomon Thomas as he was committed to Florida State, when Atkins was fired he steered Thomas to LSU and now the duo are united.
