Matheus Cunha ‘will definitely be sold by Wolves’ as deal agreed
Matheus Cunha could still be sold by Wolves despite signing a contract extension, sources have told Football Insider.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that the 25-year-old will “definitely be sold” if the Midlands giants are relegated this season.
Well-placed sources have told Football Insider there’s “no chance” that Cunha will play in the Championship, regardless of the fact he’s under contract at Molineux until 2029.
The Brazil international signed a four-and-a-half-year deal recently at Wolves, but there is a £62.5million release clause within that which will make him an attractive option to other teams across Europe.
There are expected to be takers at that price, therefore Wolves’ resolve is expected to be tested once again in the summer regarding Cunha even if they remain in the Premier League.
The Wolves forward has big ambitions and is keen to play Champions League football which the club cannot offer next season.
Matheus Cunha has been important to Wolves
Cunha has scored 11 goals and provided four assists in 24 games this season for Wolves, having proven himself as a top Premier League star.
The Brazilian forward is expected to play a crucial role in Wolves’ attempts to remain in the English top flight this season, which is why the club ensured he didn’t leave in January
The Midlands giants sit just above the relegation zone in 17th after 24 games, with only two teams having conceded more goals than them this season.
Wolves are only one point above Leicester City and two ahead of Ipswich Town, while they are seven away from Everton in 16th.
Multiple top Premier League clubs are interested in Matheus Cunha
Well-placed sources have informed Football Insider that Aston Villa, Nottingham Forest, and Man United are all interested in Cunha.
Industry insider Mick Brown revealed to Football Insider that Arsenal were among a number of clubs ready to make a move for Cunha in January, with the Gunners still keen to sign him.
Mikel Arteta is looking to bolster his attacking options for next season, and the 25-year-old has proven himself as capable of delivering in the Premier League.
