Everton’s three-game winning streak came to an end at the hands of Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon.

The Toffees suffered a 2-0 defeat to Bournemouth in the fourth round of the FA Cup, though, there was a controversial decision which angered supporters.

There appeared to be an offside in the build-up to Bournemouth’s penalty, but with no VAR at this stage of the competition, the decision stood and Antoine Semenyo converted the spot-kick.

Seamus Coleman made his feelings known to the referee and Everton fans booed the official at the full-time whistle.

Attention now turns towards the Merseyside Derby on Wednesday evening and David Moyes has already ruled out one player through injury.

David Moyes rules Nathan Patterson out of Liverpool clash

Since Moyes’ return, he’s turned to Nathan Patterson a lot more than Dyche did, having used him off the bench in the last three league games.

However, unfortunately, the Everton boss confirmed that he missed the Bournemouth clash through injury and will also be absent for the Merseyside Derby.

“He [Patterson] felt his hamstring in training,” the 61-year-old said.

“That’s why he wasn’t here, he had a tight hamstring. I would think Wednesday would be too soon for him probably.”

Whilst Moyes didn’t give an exact date for his return, it does sound like nothing serious and he could be back for next weekend’s trip to Crystal Palace.

Vitaliy Mykolenko injury update

Moyes also provided an injury update on Vitaliy Mykolenko, who wasn’t in the matchday squad yesterday.

“It was only Myko felt his calf this morning when I saw him,” the Everton boss explained.

“We had the chance we could change it and it was easy enough yet. I have no idea yet of the outcome but he just felt it a bit tight.”

Again, Mykolenko’s condition doesn’t sound too serious and if it is indeed just tightness, then he could be available for selection against Liverpool.

The Ukrainian international’s form has improved greatly under Moyes’ stewardship and as such, the need for a new left-back in January became less pressing.

David Moyes and The Friedkin Group could fix big Everton problem by signing deadly 34-goal Premier League star

Everton’s issues in the final third have been clear for all to see this season.

The Toffees have been toothless in the vast majority of their games in 2024/25, and fans have certainly been starved of goals.

It’s just 23 goals scored in 23 games so far in the Premier League, and a further six scored in the cups.

Most of the issues came under Sean Dyche. Since David Moyes came in there has been an improvement.

But there still remains a lack of a cutting edge.

Everton have been linked with several strikers in recent times, amid doubts over the futures of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Beto and Armando Broja.

It is a position that will surely be high on the agenda for The Friedkin Group this summer, and there is one player out there right now who feels like someone Everton should be looking to swoop for.

Jean-Philippe Mateta took some time to get going at Crystal Palace but over the last couple of years, he has really established himself as a great Premier League striker.

Mateta, a £12.5 million permanent signing for Palace from Mainz after an initial loan (The Athletic), has really caught the eye in recent times having posted some impressive numbers.
