This Ohio State football can raise his draft stock with a good Combine performance
This Ohio State football player could really boost his draft stock with a good performance.
The Ohio State football program was led by a lot of upperclassmen during their run to the national championship. Those upperclassmen were a major reason why the Buckeyes emerged victorious in each of their four grueling College Football Playoff games.
Now, most of them head to Indianapolis to showcase their individual skills at the NFL Combine. They will try their best to increase their draft stock ahead of the NFL Draft in April. The Buckeyes don’t have the top-level talent in this year’s draft, but they have more Combine invites than anyone else in college football.
Of the whopping 15 invites that the Ohio State Buckeyes have for the Combine, there’s one specific player who has an opportunity to test well and increase their draft stock. This one player was overshadowed this year by his counterpart, but is still a very good receiver. That player is Emeka Egbuka.
Emeka Egbuka has a shot to increase his draft stock greatly at the Combine
Egbuka has had a strange last two years of his college career. Two years ago, he was hampered by an ankle injury that limited him to just ten games. Even when he was out there in those games, he clearly wasn’t moving around the same as he had in 2022 when he finished with 1,151 yards and 10 touchdowns.
He decided to come back in 2024 to show everyone that he is still a good player when he’s healthy. Egbuka played in every game and was back to being great, but he was still overshadowed by Jeremiah Smith, who might be the best player in all of college football.
Despite that, Egbuka was able to put up 81 catches for 1,011 yards and 10 touchdowns. He left Ohio State as the all-time leader in receptions and finished second all-time in yards. The Combine is a perfect opportunity for Egbuka to show how good of an athlete he is.
Right now, Egbuka is a borderline first-round pick. Most mock drafts have him being taken at the end of the first round. A good showing in Indy could give him a shot to be in the top 15 in a class that isn’t known for its receivers.
Former Ohio State football coach and Youngstown State’s ex-president Jim Tressel is now Ohio’s 67th lieutenant governor. He was sworn into that office in a Friday morning ceremony at the Statehouse, in front of hundreds of officeholders, family members and other guests – including some of his former players.
Ohio Supreme Court Justice Pat DeWine, the son of Tressel’s new boss Gov. Mike DeWine, swore in the new lieutenant governor. Tressel spoke for nearly 20 minutes without notes or a teleprompter, thanking and acknowledging family, friends and his new co-workers.
“I’m totally humbled and excited. Here we are on Valentine’s Day, Woody Hayes’ birthday. Doesn’t get much better than that,” Tressel said.
He also talked about how he feels about the work ahead of him.
“We all have a lot of technical endeavors. We have budgets. We have this, we have that. But we’ve got to make sure the concern for our Ohioans and their fate, their future. Is our chief concern,” Tressel said. “And sometimes it doesn’t line up with what individually I’d really like. Maybe it doesn’t serve my needs, but the chief interest and the decisions we make. Need to make sure that we’ve kept in mind the needs of all of our Ohioans.”
