Former College Football Star Gives High Praise on Alabama’s Latest Coaching Hire

Former Alabama standout Damien Harris seems to be a fan of Kalen DeBoer’s latest hire. In the wake of Tyler Hughes becoming the new football analyst for the Alabama Crimson Tide, the former two-time National Champion took to social media to share his thoughts, heaping praise in just four words.

“Great hire, right here,” Harris posted to X. Before rejoining the college ranks under DeBoer and his staff, Hughes spent time with the New England Patriots under Jerod Mayo in 2024. Interestingly enough, Harris was a member of the Patriots when Hughes was on the staff.

Hughes also worked with DeBoer as an offensive analyst at the University of Washington.

Meanwhile, Harris was a standout during his time with Crimson Tide playing a role in their two national championship runs in 2015 and 2017 and rushing for over 1,000 yards in two of his four seasons in Tuscaloosa Hughes is the latest addition to Alabama staff as he continues to build his staff. So far, he has made several significant additions, including Chuck Morrell, who was promoted to inside linebackers coach, and Ryan Grub, who is taking over as offensive coordinator. Now Hughes’ would be tasked with helping the Crimson Tide return to glory a season after missing the College Football Playoffs.

Alabama fans will get behind-the-scenes look at Kalen DeBoer’s first season as the coach of the Crimson Tide.

The University of Alabama granted exclusive access to the Crimson Tide football program for a new docuseries, “The Tides That Bind: Inside Alabama Football,” premiering Wednesday on FOX Nation.

According to the university, “‘The Tides That Bind’ captures the Crimson Tide’s first season following the retirement of legendary head coach Nick Saban, chronicling the team’s evolution under new head coach Kalen DeBoer.”

The docuseries takes a look at the players, coaches and staff as they navigate a year of change, while “honoring the tradition and relentless pursuit of excellence that defines Alabama football.”

“Alabama football’s legacy is unparalleled, and this partnership allows fans to see what goes into wearing the crimson and white,” DeBoer said in a release. “This is more than just a football story – it is a look at the passion and culture that surrounds this program. It also gives viewers a look inside the team and what we embody, including the discipline and resilience that define this program.”

“The Tides That Bind” includes exclusive interviews, and never-before-seen footage.

“Alabama football is in my blood – it’s a legacy that spans generations in my family,” co-creator, producer and former Alabama player Caleb Castille said. “To help bring this story to life as a producer is an incredible honor, not just for my career, but for the deep connection my family and I have to this program and everything that it represents.”
