Player ‘getting closer’ to Newcastle United – Family travel to England as Magpies step up negotiations
Málaga’s Antonio Cordero, also known as Antoñito, could be heading to Newcastle United in the summer window.
That’s according to Diario Sur, relayed by El Desmarque, who explain the 18-year-old is ‘getting closer and closer’ to Newcastle.
The winger returned to Málaga in 2023 and has been a regular this season, scoring four goals and registering six assists from 26 league games.
His performances for the second division club have caught the attention of other clubs and Newcastle are one of them. His contract expires in June and Málaga have made a renewal offer.
According to the report, the initial proposal has been deemed insufficient by the teenager. The improved offer didn’t convince his agent as he felt the release clause was too high for the salary offered.
Therefore, Antoñito is unlikely to sign an extension, and his future could be away from the Spanish club.
Arsenal and Manchester City are keeping an eye on the youngster, but Newcastle seem to be his next destination.
Antoñito’s relatives have made a trip to the UK to visit Newcastle’s facilities. The Magpies have stepped up and the ‘negotiations are about to be closed’, but the report warns last-minute surprises can’t be ruled out.
Everything indicates Newcastle are the ‘chosen one’ and the Spain U19 international’s final decision is awaited.
Newcastle United stadium plan key date emerges after chiefs discuss St James’ Park future
Newcastle United have been assessing the plans to expand St James’ Park or build a new stadium
Newcastle United’s big decision makers are hoping to have an answer on their ‘once in a generation’ stadium conundrum in the near future after an agonising wait over whether the Magpies will stay at St James’ Park or embark on a monumental journey to a new venue.
The key figures tasked with coming to that decision all met in recent days, with the likes of Yasir Al-Rumayyan, Paul Mitchell, Peter Silverstone, Brad Miller and Simon Capper – along with Eddie Howe – enjoying positive meetings over a range of important topics at Matfen Hall Hotel in Northumberland. The stadium debate was high on the agenda, with potential plans discussed with senior Public Investment Fund [PIF] figureheads.
For fans waiting for scraps of information on what the future holds for Newcastle’s current 52,000-seater location, a key date for the diary will likely arrive in mid-March when the north east outfit host another Fan Advisory Board [FAB] meeting where representatives can put their questions to the club’s top brass.
The last meeting took place in November, with Silverstone, Miller and other top Newcastle executives answering queries from the FAB representatives at St James’ Park. The minutes of the meeting were published in the weeks after, with an update given on the status of the club’s stadium plans.
