Chris Sutton says one Everton player actually should’ve been sent off after what he did vs Man Utd
Everton drew with Manchester United at the weekend in what was yet another cracking game at Goodison Park.
Indeed, just a week on from Everton’s dramatic draw with Liverpool, the Toffees were at it again against Manchester United.
Refereeing decisions made headlines vs Liverpool, and it was the same story against United too.
This was a game full of drama, and late on Ashley Young looked to have won a penalty. However, VAR overturned the decision.
Young has a reputation as a diver, and he was seemingly at it again in this game.
Speaking on BBC 606, Chris Sutton has been discussing this penalty call, and according to the pundit, Young should actually have been sent off for simulation after this incident on Saturday.

Sutton shared his verdict on the late drama in the Everton vs Manchester United game.
The pundit claimed that Young dived and that he should have received a second yellow card.
“I think Ashley Young, I think he embellished his dive. I think he dived. I think there was a tug on the shirt, but the fact he’s trying to con the referee into winning a penalty, I think that was the correct decision,” Sutton said.
And what I liked about it is the referee went to the monitor.”
“Well, I think they did. I absolutely think they did. I think the fact that he played for it shouldn’t be awarded a penalty.
“And do you know what? Should have been a second yellow for him. There’s one for you.
“Was booked earlier. Should have been a second yellow.”
What David Moyes has said about Ashley Young’s diving
Young has been known as a diver throughout his career.
Alex Ferguson commented on Young’s diving during his time at Manchester United.
However, Ferguson wasn’t the only United manager to speak about Young’s diving tendencies.
Interestingly, David Moyes also managed Young at Old Trafford, and back in 2013, Moyes made it clear that he wasn’t a fan of Young’s diving.
“I’ve always said I don’t like diving,” Moyes said, via The Guardian.
“Ash has put his leg into the lad’s leg. The boy definitely puts his leg out and, rightly so, he deserved to get booked. I don’t want my players diving. I don’t want anybody doing it. I’ll definitely say to Ash it’s not what I want.”
Now, 12 years later, Moyes is once again managing Young, and diving is once again a key talking point around the Premier League veteran.
Young escaped a red card on this occasion, but he may not be so lucky in the future.
