Barnsley attacker ruled out for the next few weeks due to injury
Barnsley boss Darrell Clarke has said winger Jonathan Lewis will be out for a ‘few weeks’ with a thigh injury.
Barnsley landed the attacker this month to boost their attacking ranks. He has since played once for the League One side against Huddersfield Town at Oakwell.
Lewis, 27, penned a deal until the end of the season with the Tykes. However, he is now set for a spell on the sidelines until mid to late March.
In this latest update, Clarke has said, as per a report by the Barnsley Chronicle: “The scan came back with a little tear, he will be a few weeks. It’s a frustration but we have to go on with it. We have seven or eight players out with injuries or suspensions but we will rock and roll with it. No excuses. Players need to come in and take their opportunities and continue our good week.”
Barnsley injury latest regarding Jonathan Lewis
Barnsley brought in Lewis to add more competition and depth to their attacking department.
The former USA international played for Bradford City in 2015 and was loaned out to Farsley Celtic before heading back to America.
He played for New York City from 2017 to 2019 and scored three goals in 34 outings, as well as having a temporary spell away in the USL Championship with Louisville City.
The Atlanta-born man was then snapped up by Colorado Rapids and became a key player at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.
Lewis made 161 appearances for the Rapids altogether and found the net on 30 occasions.
He cut ties with the MLS outfit at the end of their 2024 campaign and has now returned to England for another crack at the Football League with Barnsley.
After securing a switch to South Yorkshire, he told the Tykes’ website: “I’m excited to be here. I’m just, you know, already ready for the matches to come up and just try to help the team to get into the play-offs. I’m excited for it all.
“To be with a top Club in League One, be able to compete for the playoff spots and be able to compete with big clubs in this league – I’m excited about that.”
What now for Barnsley?
Barnsley will have to make do without Lewis over the coming weeks.
Clarke’s men are sat in 10th place in the table as they look to get into the play-offs.
