Tennessee Football Linked to New Highly Touted Quarterback
The Tennessee Volunteers are poised to sign the top quarterback prospect in the 2026 recruiting class. So, the Volunteers have the luxury of turning their attention behind center already to 2027. 247Sports’ Ryan Callahan reported on March 3 Tennessee has made an early offer to 2027 quarterback prospect Peyton Houston.
“The 5-foot-10.5, 194-pound Houston, who already has piled up offers from more than 25 schools, told 247Sports’ Mike Roach that Tennessee is one of a dozen schools that are set to host him within the next several weeks,” Callahan wrote. “Houston is scheduled to visit the Vols on March 31 to attend one of their spring practices.” In addition to Tennessee, Houston will visit the Oklahoma Sooners, LSU Tigers, Texas A&M Aggies, and Clemson Tigers before the end of March, according to Callahan. The Michigan Wolverines, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Georgia Bulldogs, Miami Hurricanes, Texas Longhorns, USC Trojans and Penn State Nittany Lions will host the quarterback prospect for a visit in April.
247Sports, On3 and ESPN do not have a star rating for Houston yet. Rivals has Houston rated as a four-star prospect.
In the 2025 recruiting class, Tennessee signed four-star signal caller George MacIntyre. He was the No. 17 quarterback in the class according to 247Sports. For 2026, the Volunteers received a verbal commitment from No. 1 overall prospect and quarterback Faizon Brandon.
The Tennessee Volunteers already have the top quarterback recruit verbally committed in the 2026 college football class. So, behind center, the Volunteers can already look ahead to the 2027 recruits.
On3’s Matt Ray reported on Feb. 26 that Tennessee has made offers to a few different 2027 quarterbacks, including four-star prospect Jayce Johnson.
“An early name that Tennessee has kept close tabs on is Lowndes County (Ga.) QB Jayce Johnson. He has been to campus multiple times, and he will return multiple more times down the road,” wrote Ray.
“Johnson is raw in his craft but is a dynamic athlete with impressive upside. Tennessee’s early offer made a big impression, and early indications are the Vols are a legitimate contender at this stage.”
