There could be one final Abdoulaye Doucoure twist at Everton as fresh contract update emerges
Everton’s contract situations are going to provide a lot of talking points ahead of the summer.
It is rare for a club to have a double digit number of players who could potentially leave at once on a free, but that is where Everton find themselves.
It is believed Idrissa Gana Gueye is close to signing a new Everton contract and he would become the first player to confirm his future.
However, there are still a number of players whose future is yet to be resolved on Merseyside.
David Moyes will likely have his eye on a few players he’d like to keep around, which would make the Friedkins’ job a little easier in the summer when it comes to transfers.
But there may have just been another twist in the future of Abdoulaye Doucoure.
Abdoulaye Doucoure could still remain at Everton
On Thursday, it was suggested Doucoure would not have his contract extended at Everton ahead of the summer.
This would leave the Mali midfielder set to become a free agent ahead of the transfer window.
However, according to the Liverpool Echo, Doucoure could still be offered a future at Everton as Moyes remains focused on Premier League survival.
The Toffees did not act on the extension clause in Doucoure’s current deal, but that does not mean he will not be offered a new contract.
It is also suggested the decision does not reflect Moyes’ thoughts on the player.
Everton have been expected to offer Doucoure a new contract along with Gueye and Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
However, it seems nothing is going to be done until the club secure themselves mathematical safety.
Friedkins could secure easy win with new Doucoure contract
Doucoure has played a significant role on Merseyside over recent years, with the 32-year-old a mainstay under both Sean Dyche and Moyes.
Although often few and far between, the midfielder has provided the club with some really important goals.
Carlos Alcaraz may be impressing those at Everton, but Doucoure could continue to push for the spot in the starting XI.
And having one less position to fill this summer in the transfer market could prove a real weight off the shoulders of the club.
Everton are back in Premier League action this weekend as they take on Wolves on Saturday night.
Everton are unbeaten in their last seven league games and are up against a Wolves side who are still fighting for their lives at the foot of the table.
David Moyes’ men have injuries, though, and are winless in two, so it certainly won’t be a straightforward game.
With Dwight McNeil and Iliman Ndiaye still injured, Everton are lacking some creativity on the flanks, so it’s up to Jack Harrison to really step up.
