‘Expected to leave’ – Liverpool lead race to sign Bournemouth star after stellar individual campaign

Liverpool are keen to strengthen the left side of their defence this summer

Premier League leaders Liverpool found a way to win ugly in the French capital as they picked up a 1-0 victory over Paris Saint Germain in the first leg of their Champions League round of 16 clash.

In an uncharacteristic performance, the Reds only kept 29.6 percent possession and recorded an xG of 0.27 after registering just two shots at goal and one on target.

Meanwhile, PSG dominated the ball and had a staggering 27 shots at the Liverpool goal, forcing goalkeeper Allison into nine saves and at times turning Arne Slot’s defence inside out without finding the vital finishing touch their overall play deserved.

PSG wideman Khvicha Kvaratskhelia potent in the contest, in a match which highlighted Andrew Robertson difficulties playing against winger of the highest level, with some sections of the Liverpool crowd calling for an upgrade in that position in the summer.

Arne Slot is yet to make a major mark on the transfer front with Liverpool and this has so far worked to great effect as the Dutchman has harnessed the potential of many of the players he inherited from Jurgen Klopp.

However, he is expected to be busy over the summer despite his side’s successful season and is believed to be plotting a move for Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez.

Football Insider understands Liverpool have been keeping tabs on the defender for a number of months after his stellar campaign for the Cherries which has seen him record two goals and four assists in the league this season.

The 21-year-old has many of the qualities which made Robertson such a fan favourite in his early years at Anfield. He is quick, energetic and has an excellent eye for a pass – and crucially his best years are still ahead of him.

Kerkez has played a vital role in Bournemouth’s push for Europe this season, but his days at the Vitality Stadium are numbered, according to Fabrizio Romano, who posted on X: “Milos Kerkez, expected to leave and try new chapter in the summer as reported in the recent months.Liverpool are among clubs tracking the left back who signed with Fali Ramadani as new agent this year.”

These claims are backed up by Telegraph Sport’s Mike McGrath, who also posted: “Liverpool are expected to be in the running for Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez when the Hungary international goes on the market in the summer.”
