Texas Tech football commit locks in official visit with hated in-state program
Though the Texas Tech football program has made national waves because of its transfer portal haul this offseason. However, fans can’t forget about the Red Raiders’ efforts on the high school recruiting trail.
One name to keep an eye on is Tieson Ejiawoko, a linebacker who has been committed to the Red Raiders since last August. That’s because he recently announced on social media that he will be taking an official visit to Texas this June.
A native of Georgetown, Texas, the 6-foot-2, 220-pounder is a 3-star prospect according to 247Sports.com. That site ranks him as the No. 424 overall player and No. 34 linebacker in America for the class of 2026.
In addition to Texas Tech and Texas, Ejiawoko holds offers from Arizona State, Baylor, Houston, Oregon State, UNLV, Washington, and others. Now, it will be interesting to see if the Red Raiders can hang on to him until signing day.
Replenishing the linebacker corps will be important for the Red Raiders. Tech did not add any transfers at that position this offseason, making that the only position group on the team that was not enhanced via the portal.
However, in 2025, senior linebacker Jacob Rodriguez, who led Texas Tech in tackles in 2024 with 127, will exhaust his eligibility. Then, in 2026, his running mate, Ben Roberts, who has 190 total tackles in his first two seasons as a starter for the Red Raiders, will be out of eligibility.
In the recruiting class of 2025, though, the Red Raiders signed only one linebacker, Brock Golwas, a 3-star prospect from Flower Mound, Texas. Therefore, adding talent to that position will likely be a focus in the current and future recruiting classes.
Right now, it is still early in the 2026 recruiting cycle, however, Ejiawoko is currently the highest-rated of the five players committed to the Red Raiders. Therefore, this is a player that the Red Raiders will likely go all-out to try to keep in the mix. To do that, though, they will have to fend off one of the biggest brands in college football.
What the Texas Tech 2-deep depth chart might look like ahead of spring football
In less than a week, the Texas Tech football program will begin its annual round of spring practices. And this could be the most important spring of Joey McGuire’s tenure as head coach.
First of all, McGuire will be working with two new coordinators. On defense, he has brought in Shiel Wood from Houston to fix what was the team’s Achilles’ heel in 2024.
