Blue Jays Boldly Predicted To Trade One Of Two Superstars This Season

The Toronto Blue Jays explored the idea of trading shortstop Bo Bichette last year, but they ultimately decided to hold onto him. Toronto is reportedly expected to explore the idea of trading superstar Vladimir Guerrero Jr. this season if the Blue Jays fall out of playoff contention. Christopher Hennessy of ClutchPoints recently suggested the Blue Jays would finally trade either Bichette or Guerrero in 2025. “If we are saying the Blue Jays will not make the playoffs, they will likely be on the outside looking in at the trade deadline,” Hennessy wrote. “The Guerrero negotiations have gone public, and there is a large gap between the parties. And Bichette’s negotiations have not leaked at all. If all of those factors remain true in late July, they will trade one of Guerrero or Bichette.” The idea that the Blue Jays could trade one of these two stars is a real possibility, though it seems more likely they’ll trade Bichette. Bichette could garner attention from any team that needs a shortstop with the potential to return to superstar-level play. While a Guerrero deal would be a massive blockbuster, it just doesn’t seem very likely. Toronto is expected to attempt to re-sign the 25-year-old slugger in the offseason. If the team decides to trade him away, it could burn the bridge between the two sides a few months before his free agency period.

It would also take a massive haul to steal Guerrero from Toronto. The trade package would likely require a mixture of big-league talent and top-ranked prospects to acquire the superstar. Either way, it’s not out of the picture that one of these two stars will be traded before the end of the season.

The Cincinnati Reds have a lot to be excited for this season. Elly De La Cruz has looked incredible in spring training. If the young superstar takes another step forward, he could seriously contend for the National League MVP Award.

Matt McLain and Christian Encarnacion-Strand both missed the 2024 season but have since gotten healthy and returned to the field. The Reds also added a few players such as Gavin Lux to the roster.

But there’s even more for Reds fans to be excited about heading into the season.

ESPN’s Jeff Passan recently reported that Reds ace Hunter Greene lost more than 30 pounds this offseason in an attempt to get in the best shape possible.

What could the Blue Jays get in a trade for one of their superstars?

“So over the winter, Greene hired a running coach, built up his endurance, got leaner and is now down more than 30 pounds to around 235,” Passan wrote. “At 6-foot-5, his frame could handle the extra weight, but Greene wants to become a workhorse, and getting in tip-top shape, the hope is, will help him blow past his career-high 150 1/3 innings thrown last season.”

Greene was a candidate for the National League Cy Young Award in 2024, but injuries stopped him from closing in on 200 innings.

With the ace getting in the best shape of his career, he could be primed for the best, most healthy season of his career. If he can get to 200 innings, the righty could strike out well over 225 hitters.
