Lincoln City boss “happy to hear” about National League loanee debut

Lincoln City head coach Michael Skubala was “happy to hear” that a former Nottingham Forest man has hit the ground running at his new club.

Tyler Walker has had a torrid time since returning to the Imps, being blighted by injuries and now sent out on loan ahead of the end of his contract.

The striker will leave Lincoln in the summer, after making just eight appearances across this and last season. He will spent the next couple of months in the National League, helping London-based Wealdstone in their fight for safety.

What has Michael Skubala said?

The Lincoln City boss was asked by League One Lowdown co-host Jamie Johnson about Walker’s Wealdstone debut, where he was substituted on to score the first goal of the comeback from 3-0 to secure a point and a 3-3 draw.

Skubala said: “First of all I am happy to hear that he is scoring, because that is great.

Tyler has got to get going and he’s got to get games under his belt, the reason is he needs to play. It’ll be really difficult 20 minutes here, ten minutes there for the amount of time that he has had off for him and his life and his career.

“For us, he would not get the minutes, so it’s important that he goes and scores.”

A second spell that never got going at Lincoln City:

Walker’s return to the LNER Stadium just never got off the ground. He originally spent a loan spell at Lincoln City during the 2019/20 season, netting 14 league goals across the campaign.

However, his second spell has been stopped at every juncture by injury setbacks and fitness troubles.

Walker was set to get back to the first team in the summer, but suffered a latest knockback when injured during Lincoln’s warm weather training camp in Spain. With his contract set to expire in the summer, he has now played his final Imps game.

The right move for Tyler Walker – Opinion:

Lincoln City have done the right thing for Tyler Walker’s long-term career.

The 28-year-old needs to get his football back on track after two seasons on injuries and a draught of gametime.

Wealdstone have taken a chance with Walker, hoping he can help their fight for National League safety while it also helps the ex-Coventry City man to get back to a level of fitness that will allow his career to resume.

A loan away from Lincoln City was the right decision for all parties. Walker needs to play games, and he was not going to afforded that chance at the League One club with the remaining fixture list down to single digits and other players shining in his position.
