Crawley Town part company with former Charlton Athletic and Newcastle United keeper Rob Elliot

The former Charlton and Newcastle keeper took over Reds on October 1 following Scott Lindsey’s departure to MK Dons.

But results have not gone the way they wanted and Reds are currently 12 points adrift of safety in the League One table with just nine games left.

Elliot, who joined from Gateshead, only won six games in his 31 games in charge in all competitions, losing 18 of them.

But the fact it came three days before their next match and four days after their previous game did. I am sure owners WAGMI will give their reasons, but it does seem odd timing. After the result and, more importantly, the performance, at Huddersfield, I think anyone who has an interest in Crawley Town thought the writing was on the wall for the 38-year-old and were expecting that famous ‘corner flag’ image on the club’s socials on Saturday evening or Sunday.

League One relegation strugglers part company with manager

Crawley Town have sacked manager Rob Elliot with just nine games of the season to go.

The 38-year-old, who was hired from non-league Gateshead, took over at Broadfield Stadium in October after Scott Lindsey left to join League Two MK Dons. Elliot only won six of his 33 matches in charge of the Reds, losing 19, and he departs with the club set for an immediate return to the fourth tier. They are 22nd and 12 points adrift of safety.

Crawley announced Louis Storey would step up as interim head coach, supported by interim assistant Anthony Sweeney. Their first match in charge will e at home to Bristol Rovers on Saturday.

“The club would like to thank Rob for all of his efforts during his time at the Broadfield Stadium and wish him all the best for the future,” said a club statement.

League One side Crawley Town have sacked their manager Rob Elliot after a poor run of form.

Elliot who was a former professional goalkeeper best known for his time at Newcastle United, joined Crawley following the departure of their play-off winning manager Scott Lindsey to Mk Dons.

He made the step up from National League side Gateshead FC in October 2024, which had been his first managerial role.

Elliot’s departure comes after Crawley Town’s heavy away defeat to Huddersfield Town on Saturday in a 5-1 defeat at The John Smith’s Stadium. Crawley were 4-0 down at half time showing the same defensive frailties they have all season.

Crawley have the worst defence in League One conceding 71 goals.
