Aston Villa want ‘huge’ Unai Emery fee amid Manchester United twist – Exclusive
Unai Emery has emerged as a candidate to become the next Manchester United manager after excelling at Aston Villa.
Ruben Amorim is only five months into his tenure at Manchester United, but is not secure in the job, having won only 13 of his 28 games across all competitions.
Therefore, it is no surprise that the Old Trafford outfit have been credited with an interest in poaching Emery from Aston Villa, where he is contracted until 2029.
Emery compensation revealed amid Manchester United links
However, that would certainly not be an easy task as Aston Villa have no intentions of parting ways with the Spanish tactician, who has led them to the UEFA quarter-finals, according to Dan Plumley.
The football finance expert has insisted that the Birmingham-based club will demand a “huge” compensation fee if United were to make an approach to snap him up, although their interest has been dismissed as a “rumour” as of now.
“You’d think at some point that Manchester United will get sick of paying managers’ compensation fees, but here we are again with another rumour”, Plumley exclusive told Villa News.
“But yes, hypothetically if you’re looking at Emery and given where Aston Villa are at the minute, and what they’re doing and comparing them on the pitch to Manchester United, at what point in time did we ever think we’d be saying that Villa are miles ahead on the pitch than Manchester United.
“But that’s where we are with it, so even if a deal was to be talked about for that particular manager, Villa will be looking at a huge compensation fee because they don’t want to part with him at this point in time, that’s pretty clear.”
Aston Villa to buy Marcus Rashford from Manchester United
Manchester United may be hopeful of using their communication channels with Aston Villa if they decide to pursue their interest in Emery.
The Red Devils disregarded their competition with the Villa Park outfit on the pitch when they allowed Marcus Rashford to join them on loan until the end of the season.
The move has benefited Rashford, who has earned himself a place in Thomas Tuchel’s first squad as the England manager after grabbing four assists in nine appearances.
It will not be a surprise if Villa considered triggering the option to make the attacker’s loan move permanent for £40million this summer.
Aston Villa are still fighting on all three remaining fronts this season, unlike many of their competitors.
However, the campaign has taken a backseat for the Villans and Unai Emery for the week, as the squad go their separate ways to represent their nations.
Morgan Rogers is one player who has been named in Thomas Tuchel’s first England selection, chosen alongside Marcus Rashford and Ezri Konsa, though Ollie Watkins is absent through injury.
