NFL Insider Refuses to Give Up on Aaron Rodgers to MN Vikings
Have you ever seen the movie “He’s Just Not That Into You”? I imagine the Aaron Rodgers situation just like that. Rodgers has teams begging for him to be their quarterback. But the 4X NFL MVP is only leading them on, as he waits for the team he really wants, the Minnesota Vikings
And just like in that all-time romantic comedy — which featured an incredible lineup of actors including Ryan Reynolds, Justin Long, Bradley Cooper, Justin Affleck, Jennifer Aniston and Drew Barrymore — the Minnesota Vikings, are just not that into Aaron Rodgers
Until the 41-year-old quarterback signs somewhere else, however, or the Vikings explicitly tell him to kick rocks by signing another veteran QB, these rumors will not die. Especially when heavy-hitting NFL insiders like Dianna Russini (The Athletic) has extremely trustworthy sources who refuse to rule out the possible marriage eventually happening.
This is the tweet from earlier in the week, which came out immediately following other reports that the Vikings were mostly out on Rodgers, that has gotten Russini accused of bad faith reporting. If you thought that heat was going to stop her from charging forward, keep reading.
The Vikings have strongly considered and will continue to monitor Aaron Rodgers as an option, but they’re not ready to commit at this point in the offseason, per sources. They understand this could lead to him signing elsewhere or retiring.

While other reporters have noted the same caveat as Russini — that the Vikings are not closing the door on Aaron Rodgers until they get to see JJ McCarthy in action later this spring and summer — coverage at The Athletic surrounding the Rodgers + Vikings situation has been particularly bullish on the seriousness of the interest coming from both sides.
Dianna Russini still predicts Aaron Rodgers to the Minnesota Vikings
And The Athletic’s coverage has been headed by Russini, where she has been all over the situation through multiple different articles, podcasts and tweets, over the past two weeks. While others have backed off their initial reports, Russini has remained steadfast in her sources, showing zero hesitation to double, even triple down.
On Thursday, Russini joined the Dan Patrick Show, where she stood strong yet again. When Dan asked her to make a “guess” as to where Rodgers lands, you know her prediction. The Minnesota Vikings, of course.
At this point, if the Minnesota Vikings do sign Rodgers, Russini is going to go on a generational “I told you so” world tour that even Antonio Brown won’t be able to comprehend. And given the heat she has taken for standing her ground, she’ll probably deserve it.
Stop trying to make Aaron Rodgers + MN Vikings happen…
It’s all fine and well that Russini outlines her position as a guess. The problem is she has been reporting as such for weeks and continues to bang the drum. Russini knows her stuff and has legitimate sources. No matter how much the publicly noted information may be contrary, it’s clear she is standing by those talking to her.

Rodgers could have been a member of the New York Giants or Pittsburgh Steelers by this point. He clearly isn’t motivated by that reality. At 41 years old, the four-time MVP is focused on winning. He would love to secure more than the one ring Green Bay afforded him.
Rodgers to Vikings makes some sense on paper
It makes sense that A-Rodg would want to come to Minnesota. The Vikings present an infinitely greater opportunity to achieve his 2025 goals than either of the teams that have already offered him a contract, the Steelers and Giants.
So until the purple door is completely closed, he has zero reason to sign a contract that will arguably be there later. Across 17 games for the New York Jets last season, Rodgers threw for 3,897 yards with a 63% completion rate. This, with lackluster talent and a crumbling organization around him.
