Ravens Potential Targeting Son of Super Bowl Champion
Reports out of Baltimore are indicating the Baltimore Ravens might bring in Asante Samuel, Jr. for a visit and see if they can work out a deal. Samuel is the son of Asante Samuel, Sr., a former Super Bowl champion. The younger Samuel played for the Los Angeles Chargers for the last four years after being drafted in the second round in 2021 from Florida State University. The Athletic’s Jeff Zrebiec believes could be a good fit in the Ravens secondary. “There just isn’t a lot left on the free-agent cornerback market, and the Ravens’ depth chart at the position suggests they need to look at everything,” Zrebiec wrote. “Samuel played just four games last year because of a bad shoulder. He’s an undersized corner (5-foot-10, 180 pounds), and tackling isn’t his strength.” Samuel is a good cover corner and created a lot of turnovers. He is what the Ravens need in their backfield. “But he has strong coverage skills and gets
his hands on a ton of footballs. In his first three NFL seasons, he totaled six interceptions and 35 pass breakups,” Zrebievc said. “That’s a lot of ball production.” Related: Ravens New Superstar Trio Reacts to Classic Photo Going Viral Samuel had a solid first three seasons in L.A. He started 43 of the 46 games he appeared in. He was extremely solid in pass coverage, which has never been a problem for him.
Unfortunately, he sustained a shoulder injury which derailed his 2024 season and made him expendable to the Chargers. Samuel is still just 25 years old and has shown potential at the NFL level. He’s one of the better free agent cornerbacks still available, and could command a good pay day even this late in free agency.
Lamar Jackson Reminds Bengals Who’s Boss
Humility can be overrated. On Sunday, the football world got the news Cincinnati Bengals fans had been waiting for and the rest of the AFC hoped would never come. They extended receivers Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins to massive four-year deals, locking in the league’s best receiving duo with superstar quarterback Joe Burrow for the foreseeable future.
Of course, this is the same Bengals team that finished in third place, behind both the Baltimore Ravens and Pittsburgh Steelers, in 2024. The Baltimore faithful weren’t going to let a piece of news distract from that fact. Quarterback Lamar Jackson went viral as Ravens fans reacted to the Bengals signings. On Wednesday, Jackson took to social media, posing a gif of Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James pantomiming a scream, as if to feign fear while actually laughing.
It’s worth noting that Jackson may not have been referring to the signings. It might be more likely than not that he was just joking, anyway. On Instagram, he posted a story explaining his intentions.
“Imma just post this random Gif on twitter I guarantee mfs create (a) narrative,” he wrote with laughing emojis. Jackson may not have been serious, but his fans are. The Ravens have won consecutive AFC North titles and looked like one of the best teams in football in that span. Jackson is 10-2 against the Bengals, and it seems like he’s on the right end of every highlight clip and shootout from those contests. Cincinnati signed Chase to a four-year, $161 million deal with $112 million guaranteed, making him the most expensive non-quarterback in the sport (surpassing fellow AFC North superstar and Cleveland Browns edge rusher Myles Garrett). Higgins followed suit with four years and $115 million.
