Frank Lampard’s message to Leeds United boss Daniel Farke amid fight against ‘continued nonsense’
Coventry City news from CoventryLive as Frank Lampard gives verdict on Manager of the Month winner Daniel Farke and opens up on all ‘consuming’ superstitions
Frank Lampard admits he’s trying to “knock superstition out of his head” after dodging the potential bullet of the curse of the Manager of the Month.
The Coventry City boss was in the running for the February award that went to Daniel Farke instead. Leeds promptly lost 1-0 at Portsmouth and although they bounced back with a win at Millwall, they only managed a point at QPR before the international break and now share top spot in the Championship with Sheffield United, currently leading the way by virtue of a superior goal difference.
Asked about the so-called curse and if he’s superstitious about such things, the Sky Blues boss said: “Yeah, maybe. I’m trying to knock superstition out of my head in football because you can end up with walking a tightrope all week, day to day, to try and get a result from things will have no consequence on the result. And it can become a problem, you know. And so it’s quite tiring.
“So while I’m not old yet, but with my age I’m trying to cut those things out.”
Lampard, who is a big admirer of Farke, insists he’s a more than worthy winner, saying: “Well done to Daniel. I really like Daniel. He’s one of the most friendliest and accommodating managers when you go against him, other than the fact he’s got a great team at the minute that beat us pretty well in our game. But he is a gentleman and fair play to him, he deserves it.
“Those things are nice, you know, and can mean incredible amounts but what means the most for me is us winning and trying to get better and improving. Those things are great and when you get them they’re a nice touch, for sure, and I’m absolutely not putting them down. But not winning that award isn’t going to not make my day. It’s not a problem for me. I want to just continue working and I know Daniel’s record last month and for months has been really good. So he’s a good winner.”
Asked if he has any current or previous superstitions, Lampard revealed: “Yeah, I used to (as a player). I used to sort of eat the same meal in the same proportions and walk the dog with the same walk, the same laps of the locks or the park or whatever it was at the time and certain things like putting my boots on in a certain way and things like that.
