Dallas Mavericks GM Gives Idiotic Reasoning For Trading Luka - Last Word On Basketball

Mavericks Announce New Anthony Davis Update Before Nets Game

The Dallas Mavericks have faced one of the most challenging seasons in recent memory. Once expected to make a deep playoff run, a series of questionable front-office decisions and major injuries have put their season in jeopardy. The biggest shake-up came when Luka Doncic was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for Anthony Davis. The move was widely criticized, but with Davis, Kyrie Irving, and Klay Thompson, fans still hoped Dallas could compete at a high level.

However, things quickly took a disastrous turn. Davis suffered a left groin injury in his first game with the Mavericks on Feb. 8, sidelining him ever since.

Adding to their woes, Irving suffered a season-ending ACL injury, and starting center Daniel Gafford remains out with a right MCL sprain. According to NBA insider Marc Stein, the Mavericks have listed Davis as doubtful for their upcoming game against the Brooklyn Nets, but he could return as soon as Tuesday against the Orlando Magic or Thursday against the New York Knicks.

This news comes as a major sigh of relief for the Mavericks, who desperately need a boost in their playoff push.

Before his injury, Davis was playing at an elite level, averaging 25.7 points, 12.0 rebounds, and 5.7 assists on 52.8% field goal. He was also a leading candidate for Defensive Player of the Year before going down.

Just a year after making the NBA Finals, the Mavericks are now in a battle for a play-in spot, sitting tied with the Phoenix Suns at the 10th seed (34-37). Should Davis return, he could be the key piece in salvaging Dallas’ season and keeping their postseason hopes alive.

Nobody can make sense of this trade. The Dallas Mavericks have traded Luka Doncic to the Lakers for Anthony Davis, Maxi Christie, and a future first-round draft pick. Many around the league are trying to make sense of what would push Mavericks General Manager Nico Harrison to make such a bold move. Harrison has since explained why he made the Anthony Davis trade. Although some aren’t buying his reasoning as the whole story, his claims are still completely ridiculous.

“Defense Wins Championships”

Luka Doncic Sends 3-Word Message to Kyrie Irving on His 33rd Birthday

On Feb. 2, the basketball world was turned upside down when the Dallas Mavericks unexpectedly traded franchise point guard Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for Anthony Davis, Max Christie, and draft compensation. The move caught almost everyone outside of the two front offices off guard and quickly grabbed the attention of Doncic’s former teammate and fellow superstar Kyrie Irving, who had grown very close to Doncic after the two led the Mavericks to the NBA Finals last season.

Since the trade, the Lakers have thrived, remaining in the top five of the Western Conference standings, while the Mavericks have fallen out of the play-in tournament and, weeks ago, lost Irving for the season due to a torn ACL. Nevertheless, Doncic and Irving remain close, and on Sunday, for Irving’s 33rd birthday, Doncic sent him a simple three-word message on Instagram.

Both Doncic and Irving are two of the most unique and talented players in the game today. When GM Nico Harrison decided to move Doncic, after such a short time the two guards spent playing together, it sparked strong reactions from Mavericks and NBA fans.

However, both players made it clear that they understand it’s a business, and their friendship has certainly not been affected by the shocking departure. “We’ve texted back and forth.” Irving said on Feb. 11. “I’ve let him know that regardless of how this NBA business shakes out…We’re loyal to each other’s families now. We had a lot of sacred conversations that went beyond the court, and just helping each other as men. I set my mission early on when I got traded here of just what I wanted to accomplish with him and I felt like we got that going and unfortunately it was cut short.”
