Red Sox Predicted To Swing Blockbuster Trade For $56 Million Cy Young Winner

Red Sox Predicted To Swing Blockbuster Trade With Shocking AL Club

The Boston Red Sox made a lot of moves this offseason that fans should be excited about. But fans can’t be too excited because Boston has already been roughed up with injuries. Boston’s starting pitching rotation will be without Lucas Giolito,

Brayan Bello, and Kutter Crawford to begin the season as each pitcher is fighting an injury. Many expect the Red Sox to turn to the trade market in order to land a replacement for their injured starters.

Bleacher Report’s Zachary Rymer recently pitched a hypothetical trade that would send Cleveland Guardians pitcher Triston McKenzie to the Red Sox in exchange for struggling infielder Vaughn Grissom. Here’s the full deal pitched by Rymer: Boston Red Sox receive:

RHP Triston McKenzie Cleveland Guardians receive: 2B Vaughn Grissom “Alas, poor Grissom. He arrived in Boston hoping to justify the Chris Sale trade, and he’s instead gone from struggling in 2024 to sidelined in 2025,” Rymer wrote.

“Not that the Red Sox necessarily mind right now, of course. Grissom’s flop this spring opened the door at second base for Kristian Campbell, who will start the season as a contender for the AL Rookie of the Year.

“What the Red Sox need in the meantime is more pitching. Lucas Giolito, Brayan Bello, and Kutter Crawford are opening the year on the IL, a rather rough introduction for a rotation that is high on upside and low on durability.” This deal would make a lot of sense for both teams. The Guardians have a lot of pitching and could deal away McKenzie to add some infield depth. While Travis Bazzana will be up to the big leagues in the next year or two, Cleveland could still afford to add a potential starter like Grissom. For the Red Sox, Grissom will likely never see regular playing time with the depth that Boston has in the infield. McKenzie, though not a star, would provide some much-needed depth to Boston’s injury-riddled starting rotation.

Red Sox Contract Extensions Coming? Sam Kennedy Explains ‘Priority’

The focus of Red Sox contract extension news has been on Garrett Crochet, but Boston also could get other business done before Opening Day.

Brayan Bello signed his contract extension weeks before Opening Day in 2024, and it didn’t take long into the season for Ceddanne Rafaela to sign his extension. Chief baseball officer Craig Breslow and the front office set a precedent of locking in young players early, and that trend could continue this season.

“Without getting into specifics, extending our own players is definitely a priority if it all possible,” Sam Kennedy told MassLive’s Chris Cotillo and Sean McAdam on the “Fenway Rundown.” “The hallmark of a great Red Sox team in our experience is full of homegrown guys all over the diamond, full of international signees and full of free agents that come in from other places. But we absolutely have to have that core, and so it would be great to get extensions done with the younger players but don’t want to comment or put undue pressure on anybody as the clock is ticking toward Opening Day. Of course, deals could always get done in the season, as well.”

It’s only up to speculation as to which players the Red Sox president referred to. Some potential candidates could be Jarren Duran, Tristan Casas or Tanner Houck, but as Kennedy noted, there will be plenty of time to get those potential deals done.

The Red Sox remain interested in getting a Crochet extension done, and the 25-year-old, who has two years left on his contract, also would like to stay in Boston long term. It will be a wait and see regarding what business gets done before the Red Sox begin the regular season Thursday.
