San Diego Padres announce preliminary Opening Day roster for Fort Wayne TinCaps
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) – As the Fort Wayne TinCaps’ 2025 season approaches, the team’s Major League Baseball affiliate, the San Diego Padres, is announcing the preliminary roster for Opening Day.
The Fort Wayne TinCaps have been training for their 2025 season in Peoria, Arizona, for the past few weeks.
The San Diego Padres say 30 players will now make their way to the Summit City Saturday.
Of the 30 players heading to Fort Wayne, the team says 14 have previously appeared at Parkview Field.
Many others join from the San Diego Padres Single-A affiliate, the Lake Elsinore Lake Elsinore, alongside new manager Lukas Ray.
“We can’t wait to welcome everyone here soon and get this thing rolling,” said Fort Wayne TinCaps President Mike Nutter. “Once again, the Padres are sending us some of the best prospects in the entire sport, and we know they’re excited to get involved in the community here as well.
The Fort Wayne TinCaps will host an all-access night at 5 p.m. on April 2, ahead of the 2025 season.
Opening day will be Friday, April 4. The team’s first home game will be against the Lansing Lugnuts and is set to begin at 7:05 p.m

Padres Hope To Pick Up Where They Left Off As Braves Come To San Diego

SAN DIEGO, CA — Coming off a highly successful season with a devastating ending at the hands of a certain team up north, the San Diego Padres will kick off their 2025 season Thursday against the Atlanta Braves.
First pitch is at 1:10 p.m. and entry gates at Petco Park will open 90 minutes before.
The two National League foes will pick up where they left off last postseason, when the Padres swept the Braves in a best-of-three series. Game 1 was anchored by a seven-inning shutout performance by right-hander Michael King, striking out 12 batters.
The Padres then fell in heartbreaking fashion to rivals and eventual World Series winners the Los Angeles Dodgers in a best-of-five series to end their season.
King will likely get the nod for Thursday’s start, following up on his first season with the Padres during which he went 13-9 and posted a 2.95 ERA in 31 appearances
Opposing him will be lefty Chris Sale, the National League’s reigning Cy Young winner coming off the NL Triple Crown — leading the league in wins (18), ERA (2.38) and strikeouts (225). The last two times Sale took the mound against the Padres, he pitched seven shutout innings last May and then allowed one run over five innings in July.
While the Braves had a locker room full of injuries in the playoffs, they come to San Diego with a healthier roster — and a familiar face. Jurickson Profar, who spent five seasons at Petco Park and was the early star of the Padres last season, signed with the Braves this offseason.
“Similar to us, they’ve got some real star power,” Padres manager Mike Shildt told MLB.com.
“They’ve got good pitching, got a good bullpen, their regulars one through nine are very experienced and good big league players. Their bench is solid. It’s just a good club.
