Borussia Dortmund sound out Alvarez as West Ham star’s agent involved
Edson Alvarez could be set for a West Ham exit in the summer.
Graham Potter is planning a rebuild at the London Stadium and the Mexican international has struggled to tie down a permanent starting role.
The Hammers boss does not seem to fully trust the former Ajax star, who has started 19 of his 25 appearances for the East London club this season.
Clubs in Germany and France are interested in his services and a new development could seal an exit for the 27-year-old.
Borussia Dortmund step up Alvarez interest
Alvarez is attracting interest from Dortmund and French outfit Monaco and could depart the Irons once the transfer window reopens.
A report from the print edition of the Sunday Mirror (page 67, 6 April) claims that the German outfit have spoken to the player’s agent, Fulco van Kooperen, to gain an understanding of his situation in East London.
It states that the Mexico star is likely to explore his options once the season comes to a conclusion and that the Irons are looking to reduce their wage bill.
West Ham need to replace Alvarez adequately
Alvarez has failed to nail down a starting berth since his £35million move to the Hammers but he has proven to be a valuable addition to the squad.
Potter looks set to overhaul the squad in the summer as he looks to build his own squad and put a line under the awful recruitment of Julen Lopetegui and Tim Steidten.
The engine room will be a key aspect of the rebuild and Alvarez could be deemed as surplus to requirements after failing to fully convince the ex-Brighton man of his abilities.
However, the Irons need to be careful, losing the Mexican would severely weaken their already poor midfield options and a sufficient replacement would need to be acquired before they even consider a deal for Alvarez.
The Hammers could be tempted to sell if a high fee is on the table but they must ensure that they do not allow him to leave if an adequate target is not identified beforehand, that would be a huge mistake and could determine the success of the revamp
Fullkrug astounds Kris Boyd after what he did in West Ham 2-2 Bournemouth
Niclas Fullkrug gave his West Ham United career lift-off in the 2-2 draw against Bournemouth on Saturday.
The Germany international has endured a stop-start first campaign at the London Stadium after joining from Borussia Dortmund last summer.
Given Fullkrug‘s £27million price tag, it is fair to say the Hammers have not yet got anywhere near their value for money.
However, Fullkrug scored an impressive goal against Bournemouth in Saturday’s (5 April) 2-2 draw with Bournemouth to make it three goals in 11 Premier League outings, just three of those being starts.
Fullkrug on the scoresheet against Bournemouth
Graham Potter’s decision to not start Fullkrug against Bournemouth raised eyebrows, but he made an instant impact from the substitutes’ bench.
James Ward-Prowse put a ball into the box and Fullkrug, brought on from the bench moments earlier, converted from West Ham’s first shot on target.
