Weekend hero for Hull City admits Stoke City let him down in outstanding display of standards
With a convincing victory in the Potteries, the Tigers finished fourth in the Championship.
In Hull City’s 3-1 victory over Stoke City on Sunday, goalkeeper Ryan Allsop expressed his annoyance at the team’s concession, which prevented the 31-year-old from keeping a second straight clean sheet in just his second start for the team.
Aaron Connolly, Adama Traore, and Regan Slater all scored as City rolled to a 3-0 victory at the bet365 Stadium. However, the hosts’ Andre Vidigal pulled one back to lessen the impact of the otherwise remarkable score.
Allsop was not overly worked during a contest City largely dominated but did make a crucial save in each half to keep out the home side, but could do little about Vidigal’s clinical finish 13 minutes from time.

That goal left Allsop and boss Liam Rosenior frustrated and what would have been a second straight shut-out after keeping a clean sheet against Leeds on Wednesday evening.
“Massive win. We got the point in the week, it’s good to follow that up with the three points,” Allsop said. “It’s a tough place to come, Stoke, they’ve had a good summer recruitment-wise and we knew it was going to be a tough challenge, but we’re obviously delighted to get the three points. I’m disappointed we didn’t get the clean sheet, that would have been the cherry on top but the three points is the most important thing.”
After intercepting a precise ball from Allsop to score his fifth goal of the season and then helping to set up Adama Traore’s goal just two minutes later, striker Connolly praised the goalie for working on it in practice.
The international for the Republic of Ireland stated, “It was a good team performance.” “We predicted it would be a difficult site to visit before the game. We quickly quieted the crowd, scored back-to-back goals, and this player (Allsop) kept us in the game for a significant portion of the game. You witnessed the goal kick and what he was capable of producing with both his feet and hands; it’s something we work on.
Connolly’s form for City has caught the eye, and he says it’s because of the trust placed in him by the manager, and the football club since rejoining in the summer. “It’s trust. Trust from the gaffer, trust from the club from the fans and it goes a long way, it makes my job easier on the pitch,” he added.
