Who is to 'blame' for Wrexham missing out on Wembley? Phil Parkinson explains as Ryan Reynolds & Rob McElhenney see Red Dragons fail to book 'Hollywood final' date with Tom Brady's Birmingham | Goal.com US

‘This could be a monster weekend for Wrexham’ says Thomas

THERE’S four games to go in the race for automatic promotion and Wrexham legend Mickey Thomas says this could be a “monster weekend” for his former club.

Phil Parkinson’s men are second in League One, one point ahead of third placed Wycombe Wanderers with four games remaining in the quest to join title winners Birmingham City in securing a top-two finish to go straight up to the Championship.

Wrexham, hoping to land an historic third successive promotion, entertain relegation-threatened Bristol Rovers this afternoon before heading to play-off hopefuls Blackpool on Monday for the second part of the Easter double-header.

With their destiny in their own hands, Thomas – part of the best-ever Wrexham side which clinched promotion to the old Division Two in the 1977-78 season – believes the Reds could take a step closer to achieving the same feat.

“It’s an old cliche but you have got to take each game as it comes but this is incredible,” he said.

“This could be a big weekend for Wrexham, a monster weekend in terms of where they are going.

“Wrexham are on the verge of something special, getting to the Championship which is what we did in 1978.

“I have watched the last two games and it’s all about results now.

“Whether it is pretty or not, I don’t care about performances. It is about grinding out results.

“I know we did it in emphatic style with the way we played our game of football but I am not bothered about that.

“It is getting into that next level and what a next level it will be if it happens.”

Wrexham just have to continue taking care of their own business and Thomas is confident that Parkinson’s side can pull it off.

“It will be a magical atmosphere on Friday and I am looking forward to that,” he added.

“It’s in Wrexham’s hands and I can’t see it not happening, there’s so much in our favour.

“Wycombe could win every game but Wrexham are big favourites to go up.”

PHIL PARKINSON wants a much better performance from Wrexham against Bristol Rovers at The Racecourse this afternoon but he believes the point gained at Wigan Athletic could be an important one in the push for promotion in League One.

The Reds were well-below par at The Brick Community Stadium last Saturday and failed to have a shot on target as it finished in a goalless draw.

Second placed Wrexham’s destiny remains in their own hands with four games remaining but Parkinson admits there needs to be a big improvement for the visit of relegation-threatened Rovers.
