33-year-old right-hander with 45 career saves has a non-roster invitation to big league camp in spring training at Camelback Ranch.

The Dodgers added to their pitching options for spring training in 2025, signing veteran closer Giovanny Gallegos to a minor league contract that includes a non-roster invitation to big league camp at Camelback Ranch, per multiple reports.

Steve Adams at MLB Trade Rumors was first to report the signing on Saturday, which was confirmed by Fabian Ardaya at The Athletic. Per Adams, if Gallegos makes the team he’ll earn a $2.5 million salary in the majors with a chance to make another $1.5 million in bonuses.

Gallegos missed nearly seven weeks in May and June with a right-shoulder impingement, and he struggled when healthy for the Cardinals, with a 6.53 ERA and 4.65 xERA in 21 games, with 21 strikeouts and 10 walks in 20⅔ innings. He posted the lowest strikeout rate (22.3 percent) and highest walk rate (10.6 percent) of his career.

The right-hander, who turned 33 in August, earned $5.5 million in the final season of a two-year deal that covered his final two years of salary arbitration eligibility. St. Louis released Gallegos in July, and he latched on with the Twins on a minor league contract in August. He finished out the season with a 4.26 ERA in 13 games for Triple-A St. Paul.

Gallegos was among the best relievers in baseball from 2019-2022, posting a 2.84 ERA and 2.83 FIP over 228⅓ innings, with a 32-percent strikeout rate and 6.6-percent walk rate. Among the 98 relievers with at least 150 innings over those four seasons, Gallegos ranked eighth in ERA, eighth in FIP, and eighth in strikeout-minus-walk rate (25.4).

Over the last two seasons, Gallegos has a combined 5.00 ERA and 4.91 FIP in 75⅔ innings, with an 18-percent strikeout-minus-walk rate.

Per Adams’ report of the contract, he noted that Gallegos “He has spent the offseason working to correct lower half mechanics and has regained a couple ticks on his fastball.”
