After Historic MVP Year, Shohei Ohtani Targets 2025 World Series With Dodgers
Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani was awarded the National League Most Valuable Player Thursday, but he’s already focused on going back-to-back.
“The ultimate goal from the beginning was to win a World Series which we were able to accomplish,” Ohtani told Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register. “Right now, the next goal is for me to do it again. Right now, I’m in the middle of rehab (from shoulder surgery), working out, getting stronger. I’m looking forward to next year and running it back.”
Ohtani won his third MVP after an unforgettable first season with the Dodgers. Beyond becoming the first player to hit 50 home runs and steal 50 bases, Ohtani set career-highs in home runs, hits, runs scored, runs batted in, doubles, and stolen bases.
“I’m just taking this as representing the team in winning this award,” Ohtani said on MLB Network. “Obviously I didn’t go into the season trying to get the MVP award. I was more focused on being one of the guys with a new team with the Dodgers. I also wanted to embrace the fans and let them learn who I was.
Ohtani also became the first player to be voted MVP unanimously more than once. The 2024 season will forever be remembered in Dodgers history, but Ohtani is hoping to make history again in 2025.
Winning back-to-back World Series titles is certainly a lofty goal, but Ohtani continues to show he is a star that can do things no other player has done before. As the offseason unfolds, the Dodgers roster will become increasingly clear.
However, several question marks remain before the Dodgers head to Camelback Ranch for spring training. Will Japanese pitcher Roki Sasaki sign with the Dodgers? Will fan favorites like Teoscar Hernández and Walker Buehler return?
Regardless of what the Dodgers roster looks like in 2025, fans can rest assured that Ohtani is already focused on returning to the Fall Classic.
