‘Unfair criticism’ – Burnley vs Coventry City prediction: The72
The72’s writers offer their Burnley vs Coventry City prediction ahead of the Championship clash on Tuesday night.
Burnley and Coventry City meet on Tuesday night as both sides look to continue in their improving runs of Championship form.
Burnley come into their clash with Coventry City off the back of-back wins either side of the international break. They have it two in a row with a narrow triumph against Bristol City on Saturday.
A first-half goal from Jaidon Anthony secured three points for the Clarets, keeping them 4th in the Championship table after 16 games.
Question have been asked about the limited attacking success from Scott Parker’s side but they have been beaten just twice this season, conceding only six goals along the way.
Coventry City meanwhile will be hoping to get another result against a promotion-chasing side. They’ve taken a point each from games against Sunderland and Sheffield United.
Interim boss Rhys Carr has overseen both draws but with speculation over Frank Lampard’s impending appointment stepping up, it remains to be seen if Carr leads them once again on Tuesday night.
The Sky Blues are 17th in the division with 17 points from 16 matches. They’re only two points above the drop and are nine off the play-offs.
Here, a handful of our writers make their predictions for the game…
James Ray
“Parker is getting a fair bit of flak for the lack of attacking output he’s getting from his Burnley attack but there’s been a lot of unfair criticism. Goals haven’t been flowing, but he deserves credit for how tight they’ve remained at the back.
“Against a Coventry City side that has struggled going forward a bit this season, I think the Clarets stand a good chance of getting another clean sheet here.
“The Sky Blues have been a good match for two Championship promotion hopefuls over the past two games though, and I think they might be able to get something from this one too. Time will tell just who is in the dugout though.
“I’ll say this ends 1-1, but don’t rule out a narrow home win.”
Prediction: Burnley 1-1 Coventry City
Harry Mail
“Burnley have been grinding out wins recently and are a tough team to break down. They haven’t conceded in their last five games and have kept nine clean sheets in their last 10 fixtures.
“Scott Parker’s side will be in confident mood and are carrying momentum as they look to keep their run going.
“Coventry City showed a lot of fight against Sheffield United last time out and are in a false position in the table. However, the Sky Blues are in for a tough test at Turf Moor and I can see the hosts sneaking a narrow win again.”
