Coventry City predicted team vs Burnley as Rhys Carr ponders options to maintain unbeaten run
Coventry City predicted team from CoventryLive as Sky Blues reporter Andy Turner attempts to second guess Rhys Carr’s selection to face Burnley
Rhys Carr looks set to take charge of his third consecutive Coventry City match on Tuesday night when managerless Sky Blues travel to fourth placed Burnley.
The interim head coach has already earned credit for draws against the joint Championship leaders with 2-2 draws at Sunderland before another four goal stalemate at home to Sheffield United at the weekend. His baptism of fire continues at Turf Moor where Scott Parker’s men are unbeaten so far this term on home soil.
Carr has shown that he can pick a team for the circumstances and challenges in front of him, and isn’t afraid to make changes along the way to get a result. The question is, how will he set up against the Clarets?

Given that it’s away from home it would certainly make sense to stick with Saturday’s starting line-up which, you could argue, looked more like an away formation with just one striker on the pitch. It was the way City went about the game, however, that had all the hallmarks of a home side as City were quick out of the blocks and took the game to the Blades, making good use of Norman Bassette’s pace by playing him in behind on a number of occasions.
As things stand, unless he changes the formation, it’s likely that Brad Collins will continue in goal ahead over fit-again Oliver Dovin, with a back three of Joel Latibeaudiere, Bobby Thomas and Luis Binks. If it’s a back four then Latibeaudiere would be the most likely to drop out.
But sticking with a three, it’s safe to say Milan van Ewijk will be deployed at right wing-back and Jay Dasilva on the opposite flank, albeit Jake Bidwell has recovered from a knee ligament strain and went on for the final few minutes when Dasilva cramped up. Although extremely fit, however, it might be too much for Bidwell to start given how long he’s been out.
The midfield, meanwhile, proved pretty effective at the weekend when Carr deployed a box with Josh Eccles and Ben Sheaf complementing each other well at the bottom and Victor Torp and Jack Rudoni effective at the top. That leaves Bassette leading the line with bags of energy, running and rapid pace to stretch Burnley on the counter attack.
The argument against all that, however, is that the team was assembled in the summer to suit a 4-2-3-1 formation with wingers. And, certainly, van Ewijk and Tatsuhiro Sakamoto reminded everyone of their impressive understanding down the right when the Japanese wide man went on in the second half, while Ephron Mason-Clark was also effective cutting in from the left. But, again, that might be a system Carr reverts to during the game if the match lends itself to such a change.
