Report: 25-year-European giant, months afterold now in talks wit struggling at Leeds
Italian outlet Calcio Mercato claim Juventus are in talks with the representatives of Weston McKennie despite being ‘dumped’ by the Old Lady and sent on loan to Leeds United last term, where he struggled.
McKennie, 25, joined Leeds in January despite starting 16 times in all competitions for Juventus during the first half of 22-23. He played 20 times for Leeds – but his form was dismal, struggling at Elland Road.
Question marks over his fitness were constant, and McKennie’s pals even argued with Leeds fans during his loan on Twitter. He returned to Juventus and it was expected that the USA star would end up going.
But, McKennie has featured in all eight of Juve’s Serie A matches – starting the last six. Perhaps, helped by scandals surrounding fellow Juventus midfielders Paul Pogba and Nicolo Fagioli. Juve lack options.
His form has been solid, with the slower tempo of Italian football perhaps also helping McKennie. Now, CM say McKennie is the subject of new talks over a renewal to his Juve contract – which ends in 2025.
Juventus in talks over McKennie deal after struggling at Leeds
McKennie is combining well in a midfield with Manuel Locatelli and Adrien Rabiot. A star-studded trio of players – especially, in the form of Rabiot. He was arguably one of the world’s best midfielders last term.
So, McKennie has got plenty going for him – the slower style of play, the help he has in midfield and the issues surrounding Pogba and Fagioli, forcing Max Allegri to start McKennie in the middle of the park.
But, McKennie also deserves some credit. His form has been impressive. He has quickly ridded himself of the Leeds spell, and got his career back on track. A shame we never got to see this McKennie.
