Browns Deshaun Watson Said He ‘Jumped the Gun’ in Playing Colts; Several Injured Return, Missing CB, WR More
Browns quarterback insists he’s still getting better, but is unsure if he’ll play this
BEREA, Ohio — Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson said on Thursday that he ‘jumped the gun’ in trying to play against the Colts on Oct. 22 and said he told the decision makers that he was ready.
Before he returns to the field, Watson says now that all the decision makers have to have the same mindset, including himself.
“We all got to be on the same page,” Watson said before practice on Wednesday. “I told the guys that I was ready Indianapolis week . That was my decision, and look it, I wasn’t ready. I tried to jump the gun a little bit and it didn’t go our way.
“So at the end of the day, you got to listen to the experts and all the things that they did,” he said. “It’s my first time dealing with it, so of course I know my body, so I’m keeping track of everything that I’m doing and letting them know what’s going on and what, what’s good and what’s not good. So I think we will all be on the same page and we all feel right when that time comes.”
Watson practiced on Wednesday and Thursday and said when it’s all said and done, he’ll know when he’s ready.
Offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt said that Watson looked better than he did when he was practicing before he last played.
“He looked better, progressing,” Van Pelt said. “He does look better than he looked last time he threw in a practice, so that’s a positive. He’s feeling better.”
“Just one of those deals where you’ll just know,” he said. “I think we’re all known from myself, from Kevin, from Joe and the medical staff, from everybody. Everyone has seen me when I was healthy and then they see me when I was at my lowest, too. So I think we all, if we’re all on the same page, we’ll know.”

Watson said that because he had to leave the Colts’ game, does not mean that he has to be cautious in his return.
“I’m not cautious at all,” he said. “I mean, it’s part of the process and like I said before, the Indianapolis week was I think four weeks, so we try to maximize or minimize how much I need at that time, and now we’re going on six weeks, so we just try to just stay the course, stay the process, but follow what the doctor say and go from there.”
