Green Bay Packers LT David Bakhtiari Sends Fans Into Frenzy With Perplexing Announcement
The Green Bay Packers and left tackle David Bakhtiari have had a tumultuous last two years. Bakhtiari will be unavailable to the Green Bay Packers the rest of the 2023 NFL season. The left knee he had surgically repaired has developed a cartilage issue that will require a fifth operation. The Packers’ Week One win over the Chicago Bears may have been Bakhtiari’s last game ever as a Packer.
Today, Bakhtiari sent fans into a frenzy with an extremely cryptic announcement on X (Twitter).
David Bakhtiari took to Twitter to make a very cryptic announcement:
November 8, 2023. Remember that date.
— David Bakhtiari (@DavidBakhtiari) November 14, 2023
Bakhtiari carries a cap hit of more than $40 million in 2024, but a dead cap hit of only $19 million. Bakhtiari is unlikely to be retained by the Packers beyond this season, even if his knee did not act up again.
In an interview with reporters, the former All-Pro left tackle confirmed that he intends to play in 2024, whether with the Packers or another team.

Packers fans certainly had a field day with Bakhtiari’s announcement:
Whether it was something personal, something professional, or a mix of the two, it certainly sent fans down a rabbit hole of what it could’ve meant. As per ESPN’s Dan Graziano, the team may have to cut running back Aaron Jones and left tackle David Bakhtiari in the offseason:
“The Packers are middle-of-the-pack in projected 2024 cap space, but Jones turns 29 in December and is having trouble staying on the field this season with a hamstring injury. We know the Packers were poking around on Jonathan Taylor when he made his offseason trade demand, too.
Jones will have one year left after this season on a deal he had to rework this past offseason to avoid being cut. The Packers would save $11.45 million next year in cap space if they made him a post-June 1 cut.
David Bakhtiari is the most obvious cap-saving move for Green Bay, but his circumstances are different and well-publicized. Moving on from Jones would be a future-focused decision and one more piece of evidence that it’s tough for a running back in these salary cap streets.”
