Tennessee Titans defensive back Shyheim Carter tackles Baltimore Ravens running back Gus Edwards

Tennessee Titans elevate former Alabama defensive back

Defensive Shyheim Carter made his NFL debut in October, and he’ll be eligible to play again on Sunday for the Tennessee Titans.

The Titans elevated the former Alabama safety from their practice squad on Saturday, which makes him eligible to play when Tennessee takes on the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday.

Each NFL team can elevate two players from the practice squad to active status for each game.

Carter entered the NFL from the Crimson Tide as an undrafted rookie in 2020, and he’s been waived or released nine times during his career.

Carter was part of a busy transactions day for Tennessee.

The Titans placed defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons and linebackers Jack Gibbens and Luke Gifford on injured reserve on Saturday. Gifford and Gibbens rank second and third, respectively, in special-teams plays for Tennessee this season, and their absence likely created a need for Carter in Sunday’s game.

The Titans and Seahawks kick off at noon CST Sunday at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee.
