The Houston Astros have experienced another loss in their coaching staff following the retirement of manager Dusty Baker and the hiring of Joe Espada to take the helm.
This time it’s Jason Kanzler, an assistant hitting coach for the Astros, who has taken his leave and will be joining the Chicago Cubs front office.
The 33-year-old Kanzler is joining the Cubs and will become their new director of player development according to The Athletic.
Kanzler is essentially taking Jared Banner’s role with the Cubs after being promoted to an assistant general manager role on the Northside
For three seasons Kanzler has been on the MLB coaching staff and has helped develop a solid offensive foundation, one that helped lead the Astros to their second franchise World Series championship in 2022.
