Sunderland poised to land in-demand midfielder linked with Hull City transfer
Hull City’s play-off rivals look set to add to their midfield ranks in the next couple of days
Sunderland are expected to wrap up the signing of Barnsley midfielder Callum Styles after the 23-year-old was left out of the Reds’ squad for their crucial 1-0 win at promotion rivals Oxford United on Wednesday night.
Styles looks set to move to the Stadium of Light, as Michael Beale looks for a welcome lift after being beaten 1-0 at home by Hull City last Friday night, with the recent appointment subjected to taunts about being sacked by his own fans following his appointment that was not universally popular.
City were credited with an interest in Styles. While he is a player who has unsurprisingly been looked at by the Tigers’ recruitment staff, any concrete interest or bid was not forthcoming from the MKM Stadium club during the January transfer window which closes next Thursday evening.

“The club are in negotiations but at this stage, I think we focus on the lads that played tonight and deal with that in the coming days, I think you take what you want from the fact we’re in negotiations with another club and he didn’t play tonight,” Reds boss Neil Collins told BBC Radio Sheffield at the Kassam Stadium.
City meanwhile, are expected to complete the signing of Ryan Giles from Luton Town in the coming hours. The Tigers have agreed a loan deal with the Premier League Hatters, with an option to buy inserted into the deal similar to the one they had with Ruben Vinagre when he arrived from Sporting Lisbon in the summer.
