Raiders to Name Fred Walker Assistant QBs Coach
The Las Vegas Raiders are another step closer to finalizing their coaching staff for the 204 NFL season.
According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Raiders are expected to name Fred Walker their assistant quarterbacks coach. Walker has served as an offensive assistant for the club the last two seasons.
Prior to joining Las Vegas, Walker served as quarterbacks coach at the University of Massachusetts for the 2021 college football season. He had worked with wide receivers at Murray State the year before.
Before Murray State, Walker served as an offensive coordinator for Duke during the 2018 and 2019 seasons, where he mostly coached quarterbacks, including New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones. Walker served as Tennessee Tech’s wide receivers coach during the 2017 season, coaching former Tennessee Tech wide receiver Dontez Byrd, who broke the program’s single-season receiving-yard record that year.
Walker had previously served as a graduate assistant and offensive analyst at Troy University for the 2015 and 2016 seasons. He began his coaching career as a student assistant coach at Mississippi State for four seasons, where he coached in four bowl games — the Music City Bowl, the Gator Bowl, the Liberty Bowl, and the Orange Bowl. which Mississippi lost to Georgia Tech. Walker also worked with Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott during his time with the program.
The Raiders added Walker to their staff in the 2022 offseason. He is one of the few offensive coaches to be returning for the 2024 season. While he does not have many years of experience coaching in the NFL, he still has valuable experience in general and has worked with some of the best quarterbacks in the game.
From February 27 to March 4, 2024, the NFL Scouting Combine will be held at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Ind.
The NFL Draft will be held in Detroit, Mich., on April 25-27, 2024. The Las Vegas Raiders currently hold the No. 13 overall pick.
