Sunderland: The perfect like-for-like Jack Clarke replacement is Brazilian winger
However, after failing to make a single league appearance in North London, Clarke ventured back into the EFL Championship with loan spells at Queens Park Rangers, Stoke City, and finally Sunderland, before making a permanent move to the Stadium of Light in July 2022.
Since then, Clarke has excelled in a red and white shirt, remaining a constant source of creativity in the first team set up, which has significantly contributed to Sunderland competing for promotion back to the Premier League.
A number of top-flight clubs have been rumoured this season to be considering a move for Clarke, and Football League World identifies the perfect replacement should he depart.
Jack Clarke’s perfect replacement
According to FBRef, Clarke’s perfect replacement is Brazilian winger Everton Soares, who currently represents his native side Flamengo in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A division.
Joining Gremio’s youth setup in 2012 on loan from Fortaleza, Everton would link up there on a permanent deal a year later, whilst also being touted for a potential move to Premier League heavyweights Manchester City.
The 27-year-old would go on to have a six-year stay at Gremio, recording 242 appearances, with 63 goals and 23 assists to his name.
A move to Portuguese giants Benfica would transpire, allowing the wideman to showcase his talents in both the Europa and Champions League.
Everton would go on to help push Benfica towards the top of the Liga Portugal table, contributing to two third place finishes in his time there. He notched 15 goals and 18 assists from 94 matches.
The Maracanaú-born player has found himself with Flamengo since 2022 and has been a first-team mainstay throughout his spell, recording over a century of games for the club in all competitions.
