Hull City keen on loan player return but face competition

Hull City would ‘love’ to bring back Liverpool midfielder Tyler Morton but he is expected to attract interest from clubs in a higher position, as detailed in a report by HullLive.

Hull City have the chance to bolster their ranks in the upcoming January transfer window. They won 2-1 at home to Swansea City over the weekend after goals by Joao Pedro and Mason Burstow to rise out of the bottom three in the Championship.

Morton, 22, spent last season on loan with the Tigers under their former boss Liam Rosenior. He was a key player during his time in East Yorkshire and made 41 appearances in all competitions, 39 of which came in the league, and he has scored three goals.

As per HullLive, his former side are keen on luring him back to the MKM Stadium this winter if they are able to. However, if he is allowed to depart again next month, other teams are also poised to be alerted.

Getting Morton back would be a shrewd bit of business by Hull City but it seems unlikely.

The England youth international has stayed put at Liverpool during the first-half of this campaign and has played three matches for their first-team under Arne Slot.

The Reds are top of the Premier League table and he has recently told their official club website: “The manager (Slot) has come in and tactically stamped his authority hugely. I think that’s a massive credit to him and his coaching staff.

“To be a Liverpool footballer, you’ve got to be able to do a lot of things. I’ve been learning both positions, the six and the eight. The manager’s changed my game really well, and he’s helping to develop me in situations that I probably wouldn’t have had the chance to be in when I was playing just the six role.”

Morton has been on the books at Anfield for his whole career to date and has risen up through the academy ranks of the Merseyside outfit.

He has been a regular for the top flight giants at various different youth levels over the years and has featured on 12 occasions for the senior team to date.

As well as Hull City, he has also been loaned out to Blackburn Rovers in the past to get some experience.

What now?

Liverpool have a big decision to make on what to do next with Morton.

The door is open for him to return to the Tigers but a change of scene may be wanted.
