Dodgers Could Swing Blockbuster Trade For $34 Million Blue Jays Infielder
The Los Angeles Dodgers have built one of the best rosters in recent memory. They have a loaded starting rotation with multiple pitchers who could compete for the Cy Young. Their starting lineup also has numerous hitters who could be among the best in the league at their position.
But in classic Dodgers fashion, the rich will only look to get richer. The Dodgers are looking to get better and the ideal trade target could fall right into their lap. Los Angeles was rumored to be in on shortstop Willy Adames before he signed with the rival San Francisco Giants. Now, the Dodgers could pivot to swinging a blockbuster trade for 26-year-old Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette.
Bichette is coming off a horrible season in which he slashed a career-low .225/.277/.322 with just four home runs in 81 games. This comes after recording at least 20 home runs and an .800 OPS or higher during the 2021, 2022, and 2023 seasons. For the Blue Jays, the goal would be trading him before his value drops any lower. They would be able to land a package from the Dodgers likely centered around another reclamation project:
Bobby Miller. Miller was excellent in 2023 but un-pitchable in 2024. A deal sending Miller plus prospects to Toronto isn’t outside the realm of possibility just yet. The Dodgers would acquire a shortstop to slot into the everyday lineup. If Los Angeles can turn Bichette’s career back around, it would be landing an elite hitter.
The Blue Jays haven’t made a move this offseason. They need to pick a direction and either try to win or sell on their star players.
Dodgers GM Provides Latest Injury Update on Tyler Glasnow
Dodgers general manager Brandon Gomes provided the latest update on starting pitcher Tyler Glasnow at the Winter Meetings in Dallas. Glasnow was sidelined in September because of a sprained elbow after an injury saga that began the month prior.
“He’s feeling good,” Gomes said. “Everything we’re hearing from our doctors is he’s in a great place.”
Gomes said he saw an encouraging video of the right-hander recently. Glasnow recently began his throwing program, but the real test will come closer to spring training.
“That’s true of any pitcher going into the offseason,” Gomes said. “You don’t know a ton until they step on the mound, but our expectation is there won’t be an issue as he builds up.”
Glasnow, 30, had a stellar first season in a Dodgers uniform, but it concluded with a heartbreaking injury. The right-hander was placed on the 15-day injured list on Aug. 16. At the time, the decision to place Glasnow on the injured list seemed like a precaution in preparation of the postseason.
However, what was once elbow tendinitis ended up being a more severe injury. Glasnow sported a 3.49 ERA and a 9-6 record in his first season with Los Angeles. The right-hander threw a career-high 168 strikeouts across 134 innings.
