Perhaps a longshot but if everything lines up over the coming months, Wrexham signing Nathan Broadhead isn’t out of the question.
The winger came through The Red Dragons’ academy before he moved to Everton in 2008.
After progressing at the Toffees for 15 years, he finally left Merseyside and moved to Ipswich in League One.
n to the Championship is a real possibility under Phil Parkinson as Wrexham has continued to remain in the race.
The Red Dragons’ rise in recent years has been nothing short of remarkable and three successive promotions to the second tier would be an unprecedented feat.
However, despite the club continuing to look forward, they may want to look back to acquire some old faces as they continue their march up the divisions.
Therefore, The Wrexham Insider has listed three former players that the club should sign in 2025.
Across the next two seasons, Broadhead became vital to the Tractor Boys as they earned back-to-back promotion to the Premier League.
However, since reaching the top-flight, the winger has struggled for game time. If this trend continues throughout the rest of the season Broadhead may look to move on.
If Wrexham can achieve promotion to the Championship, they may be in a good position to tempt Broadhead to the club, especially if the Red Dragons continue to show ambition.
A potential option in the January window is goalkeeper Chris Maxwell. The goalkeeper came through Wrexham’s academy and played numerous games for the club before moving on in 2008.
Since then, the Welshman has established himself as an experienced EFL ‘keeper, playing regularly for teams such as Fleetwood Town, Preston North End and Blackpool.
The 34-year-old currently resides at Huddersfield Town where he has been used as a back-up since 2023.
Given, Wrexham’s current goalkeeping crisis, they may look to take steps to ensure this never happens again.
Maxwell would be a perfect choice if Parkinson does seek to reinforce this area. The goalkeeper knows the club, is experienced in the league, and has overseen a promotion to the Championship in the past.
Davis Kellior-Dunn’s career at Wrexham was short-lived. The midfielder only appeared six times in the league before being released six months after signing in 2020.
Since then, the 27-year-old has skyrocketed. After Wrexham, he joined Oldham Athletic where he impressed before moving to Burton Albion and soon after, Mansfield Town.
At The Stags, he shone and helped the club reach League One last season with a staggering 22 goals in 46 matches.
In the summer, Kellior-Dunn was rewarded with a move to Barnsley where he has continued his form as he looks to earn another promotion.
However, given he is now one of the best players in League One, Wrexham should look at bringing him back.
While it is highly unlikely that this could happen in January, if Wrexham do achieve promotion to the Championship and Barnsley doesn’t, they may be able to tempt Kellior-Dunn back to the SToK Racecourse Stadium.
