NFL Insider Takes Clear Stance On Amari Cooper Contract Situation
The Cleveland Browns have an interesting situation developing with their Pro Bowl wide receiver in Amari Cooper.
Cooper did not show up to mandatory minicamp this week in the hopes of receiving a major extension offer from the team.
NFL insider Jordan Schultz recently appeared on “The Herd” to chat about the situation from his perspective.
“He’s a great player. He’s 29-years-old. He’s coming off his best season as a pro…I think he will ultimately get paid. The number really has to be I think over 25 (million). It makes sense to me,” Schultz stated.
Since he was drafted with the fourth overall pick by the Raiders back in 2015, Cooper has ben one of the league’s underrated stars.
Whether he has been with the Raiders, the Cowboys, or the Browns now, he has been incredibly consistent.
The five-time Pro-Bowler has recorded seven 1,000-yard seasons in his nine-year career.
He has also poured in seven seasons with at least 70 receptions.
Whether he has been catching passes from Derek Carr, Dak Prescott or the multitude of quarterbacks in Cleveland, he has more than made it work.
Like Schultz said, Cooper is coming off a career year in terms of receiving yards (1,250 yards).
He doesn’t appear to be slowing down despite being on the verge of 30.
From Cooper’s end, he appears to be looking for some security and a raise in pay before he can’t ask that anymore.
With receivers like Justin Jefferson and Cooper’s own teammate in Jerry Jeudy getting paid, Cooper wants to cash in now.
