Highlights

Risked match penalty – escaped: “No force upwards”

Sam Vigneault appeared to receive a match penalty for a tackle on Skellefteå ‘s Arvid Lundberg.
Then the referees removed the expulsion completely from the MoDo forward.

– Initially we have a five-minute expulsion for a tackle to the head, referee Tobias Björk begins to explain on TV4.

It was late in the second period, with 3-2 on the clock, that MoDo’s Sam Vigneault delivered a slap to Arvid Lundberg. The Skellefteå back was able to stay on his feet and quickly made it to his own booth, but the referee’s arm was quickly raised for a five.

In the end – after extensive review, the penalty was removed entirely. No expulsion remained.

– The assessment on the ice is that it is a tackle that takes your head, then it is difficult from where I stand how he performs the tackle itself. Initially, we have a five-minute expulsion for a tackle to the head which will be video reviewed, then the head referee Tobias Björk begins to explain on TV4.
– Then we see, when the tackle takes place, that Sam holds everything down, there is no upward force, Arvid is quite low and he moves just before impact. From this we judge that it is not a deportation, he then continues.

Jesper Olofsson made it 3–3 for the Övik team in the third period, but Skellefteå drew the longest straw in extra time with Martins Dzierkal’s 4–3 decision.
