Barnsley and Huddersfield join Wrexham and Birmingham in race to sign in-demand Brighton midfielder
The Athletic’s Brighton correspondent Andy Naylor revealed that Birmingham City, Oxford United and Wrexham have all held talks with the former Scotland under-21 international.
Major League Soccer outfit Vancouver Whitecaps have also shown an interest in signing Leonard, according to Naylor.
The 22-year-old has spent the past two seasons on loan at Northampton Town, helping the Cobblers secure promotion to League One in 2022-23.
During his time at Sixfields, Leonard made 97 appearances and scored six goals.

Wrexham will face non-league outfit Hanley Town in a final tuneup before their American tour after Premier League giants Liverpool reportedly pulled out of a behind-closed-doors friendly
Northern Premier League side Hanley Town FC have swooped in to provide Wrexham with a tune-up match before the Welsh club’s high-profile American tour begins on July 24.
Manager Phil Parkinson explained to the Wrexham Leader on Friday that the Dragons had previously scheduled a closed-door exhibition with an unnamed Premier League giant in preparation for their American adventure before suffering a last-minute cancellation. The match is scheduled for 1 pm BST at Afford Rent-a-Car Stadium in Stoke.
“We had a game organised against a Premier League club behind closed doors at their training ground which they pulled out of because of complications with their pre-season tour,” said Parkinson. “We had to quickly arrange an alternative and we went to Hanley, looked at the pitch and spoke to the owner.
